The Fairmont Monte Carlo – Monaco, by Rheanna-Marie Hall

Fairmont Monte Carlo Hotel Hotel: The Fairmont Monte Carlo

Location: Nestled between the famous hairpin bend of the Grand Prix track and the Mediterranean Sea, the Fairmont is an ideal base from which to explore Monaco. It’s only minutes from sights such as the Monte Carlo Casino, Champions Promenade, and exclusive shopping boutiques (think Prada and Gucci galore).

Highlights: The drive up to the Fairmont is its own experience; I couldn’t help but feel a small thrill as we pulled round the Grand Prix hairpin bend, and slowed to a stop outside the hotel entrance. There, staff are on hand to assist with luggage and usher you through into the grand lobby.

Given my key, I made my way up to my room, filled with anticipation. And I wasn’t disappointed. I opened the door – and was immediately greeted by the sight of the Mediterranean. The entire wall opposite was glass, complete with a sliding door onto a private balcony. I had to take a moment to sit down on the sun lounger, to marvel at the view of the Monaco coastline and the sea stretching off into the horizon.

Impressively, my room for the weekend was more than a match for the view outside. Elegant and spacious, it was the perfect way to start my time in Monaco in pure style. The king-size bed promised (and delivered!) a great night’s sleep, and the marble bathroom filled with Le Labo Rose 31 toiletries made getting ready a treat. Plus, the Fairmont understands the value of the little details; my room also came complete with a personalised welcome card, complimentary water and fresh flowers.

Along with its stunning accommodation, the Fairmont also boasts four restaurants, a bistro lounge and bar, a spa, and a fitness centre. And if you’re looking for some stylish time poolside, then Nikki Beach on the hotel rooftop is for you. Bag a sun lounger and stretch out on your towel. If you need a break from the heat of the sun have a dip in the pool, and then order a juice or cocktail for the ultimate refresher!

My own time at Nikki Beach was spent in exactly this way. As soon as I had explored my room, I was changed (magazine and sunglasses in hand) and hitting the elevator button for the top floor. Two hours passed by in the blink of an eye, and they were spent gloriously basking in the sun, looking out to sea and at the sloping city of Monaco and feeling a sense of serenity. If you need a break away from the hustle, poolside at the Fairmont is a fantastic place to start!
